Weather From One Ski Area To Another Often Varies
Check the weather outside your luxury catered chalet accommodation and compare this to the view through the webcams. Higher up the mountain it may look the same, but in reality it could be different. The higher mountain are occasionally prone to stronger winds not easily seen from the valley floor. Look for subtle signs of this, clouds streaming past or forming only over the peaks. And if not too early in the morning, check the Chamonix Webcam applicable to your area using the links above! Because if the ski lifts are open, see if there are any people on the webcam camera. People already skiing and snowboarding may help determine such things as what to wear, and where to go. For example, if the skiers or Snowboarders can be seen struggling to stand or bending to the wind, then maybe stay lower on the mountain or choose a more sheltered resort.
Le Tour and Vallocine offer fabulous skiing, but are more open and susceptible to wind as a consequence. Similarly at high altitude the Grands Montets can also be exposed being at an altitude of 3,295m. All ski resorts have their own micro weather going on so just something to be aware of. Plus knowing that the wind can indicate colder temperatures. Layer up is our recommendation, and better to have one too many that can go in a rucksack, than one too few!
