SOMETHING FOR ALL ABILITIES
Chamonix is not always synonymous with family ski holidays, but this is a mistake. Whilst famous as one of the world's premier ski and snowboard destinations, Chamonix provides some great skiing and snowboarding for all abilities. Notwithstanding a vast array of activities off the slopes too. So whether you are looking as a family ski group for high octane skiing and snowboarding, or a more relaxed approach, with gentle greens and blues, there is something for you. Notwithstanding those who don't ski. Long lunch, you'll be spoilt for choice. Or a trip to the fabulous spa, ice rink, swimming pool, or whatever, Chamonix doesn't disappoint.
Les Houches and La Tour ski areas are particularly well suited for family skiing, and Brevent and Flegere sunny slopes for more competent family members. The Grands Montets is the ‘big daddy’ of them all. However, whilst the Grands Montets offers world class skiing and snowboarding on and off-piste, we don’t advise racing there on day 1 with younger children or anything other than competent teenagers as the skiing is wonderful, but challenging accordingly.
More competent family skiers and snowboarders, as well as enjoying Les Houches and La Tour, are sure to love the sunny blues and red slopes on Brevent and Flegere with there stunning Mont Blanc vista opposite. Some easy blues, lovely, fun reds, and the black down from the top of the Brevent being particularly challenging for the older children and adults alike.
Older children, who are competent on more challenging reds and steeper blacks will love the Grands Montets. It is the giant of the Chamonix Valley and loved by confident and competent teenage skiers and snowboarders (and parents too), it isn't an area however that is ideal for younger skiers , or less confident ones either. Powder, moguls, steep descents, it nearly always has them all. As we note, not for the faint heartened, but for those that love the challenge, it is a very special ski area indeed (as our video on the left demonstrates).
There is a small snow park and border cross course at Les Houches to pitch yourself against friends, a slightly larger park at Brevent, a fabulous large park at the Grands Montets (see right), including a competition border cross course, and a brand new landscaped snow park at La Tour including half-pipe (new for 2019/20).
