Today our Chamonix Mountain Restaurant guides take a look at the spectacular Panoramic restaurant at the top of the Brevent cable car. Situated high above Chamonix town, the Panoramic mountain restaurant resides at 2,550m and offers one, if not the very best view to be found anywhere in the Chamonix Valley and also the Alps. Take a look at the photos to your right and below to see for yourself. South facing, and found at the top of the Brevent cable car, the terrace feels as if it is perched over the town itself as it hangs to the side of the cliff and as you gaze across the valley, you would be forgiven for feeling at one with the birds that glide around the peak, high in the sky.
Cleverly designed, the glass panels provide unrestricted views across the valley, and a camera isstrongly recommended to capture the stunning landscape that includes Mont Blanc, the Dru, and l’Aiguille du Midi. You also have an excellent vantage point of the Vallee Blanche on the other side of the Chamonix Valley.
On sunny days it is a must visit at least once during your ski, snowboard or summer holiday, and whilst the food is not quite as good as the very best restaurants in the valley, it is nevertheless very well prepared and presented. Expect to pay a small premium for the view over rival restauarants, it is well worth the surcharge!
Menus change annually, but typically it is a mix of stylish mountain favourites, including terrines, tartes, salads, tartiflette, fondue, steak and chips. The restaurant is open both in the winter for skiers and snowboarders, and in the summer for visitors by cable car, walkers, mountain bikers and paragliders.
In terms of accessing from the valley floor, take the Brevent gondola just above the south facing side of Chamonix town, and then the cable car as you directly exit. February weeks are particularly popular and booking is therefore strongly advised.
